Celebrating our Super Mums!

This Mother’s Day, we're rolling out the red carpet for all the super-mums across our Salon Express network. With more than half of our Salon & Head Office team juggling motherhood alongside their careers, we're in absolute awe of their dedication and resilience. Balancing the demands of a bustling salon with the joys and challenges of parenthood is no easy feat!

Today, we're zooming in on one of our talented Apprentice Hair Stylists, Kym Sinclair, who wears her 'mum-of-three' badge with immense pride. Not only is Kym a constant source of inspiration for her family, but her team at Salon Express Rockingham is also amazed by the stunning colouring work she produces, even while still an apprentice.

Join us as we delve into Kym’s inspiring journey as a #MumStylist!

Kym is a proud mother to Lilly (9) and adorable twins, Tyler and Jaxson (20 months). As Kym puts it, "Lilly is incredibly independent and a tremendous help with her baby brothers. She adores them and is the best big sister they could ask for. As for the boys, Tyler is a mummy's boy, always seeking cuddles, while Jaxson, much like his big sister, is quieter and more self-reliant."

Ever since she was a little girl, Kym has always dreamed of becoming a hairdresser. She kick-started her journey with Salon Express as a 1st Year Apprentice. Despite her initial fears due to starting her apprenticeship later than most, she was welcomed with open arms into our Salon Express family, “I immediately felt so welcomed by everyone and it has been amazing to watch my skills progress so rapidly within the company.”

During her first year of apprenticeship, Kym discovered she was expecting her second and third children (the twins). Our Salon Express team rallied around her, ensuring she felt supported and comfortable throughout her pregnancy and upon her return post-birth, “The Salon Express team really catered for my needs and made sure I felt supported to complete my apprenticeship and return to the company. During my pregnancy, they altered rosters, made sure I wasn’t standing on my feet for too long and gave me adequate breaks. When I came back to work 1 week post-partum, my son became really sick and I had to take a few months off to support my family and ensure my son was in good health. Salon Express was extremely supportive during this time; granting me the opportunity to be there for my son and consistently checking in on me and my family.”

Fast forward to today, Kym’s son is now happily back to full health, and her family of five is thriving. Let's take a peek into what a normal week in their bustling household looks like: “A normal week with three kids and a FIFO fiancé can be pretty chaotic! I work 38 hours a week plus one day of training at TAFE. While I adore my time in the salon, I'm also committed to my training sessions to finish my apprenticeship. My day usually starts around 4:30/5 am, depending on when the boys wake up. I also make it a point to hit the gym before work at least five times a week. It's my 'me time', my de-stressor, and it makes me a better mum. Once I'm home at 5:30 pm, it's dinner and bath time for the kids! After that, it's playtime in the ball pit before bed.”

Navigating a healthy work-life balance can be tricky, but Kym has a few strategies up her sleeve. “Making sure I have self-care days is super important! I’m still learning to be more organized and stick to my schedule. My theory is, if I follow my schedule, I get to spend more time with my kids, and that is incredibly special to me. Sunday is our family day, and my fiancé and I try to do something special for the kids on this day.”

At Salon Express, we're inspired by our #MumStylists, like Kym, every single day. To Kym, “Mother’s Day is a celebration of all mothers and mother-figures out there and of course, the best excuse for breakfast in bed!” We couldn’t agree more. Here's to hoping all the super-mums reading this are waking up to a warm, delicious breakfast in bed this morning!
